Glasses Returns Policies Compared: Who Refunds Prescription Lenses?
Buying glasses online is cheaper, but what if they don’t suit you or don’t feel right? Glasses returns policies vary hugely between UK retailers, from 14 days to 120, and some refund only the frame. We checked each retailer’s own policy in October 2026, so you know where you stand before you order.

Can You Return Prescription Glasses?
Usually, online shoppers can cancel within 14 days for any reason. However, that legal right doesn’t cover goods made to your specifications, under regulation 28 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations. Prescription lenses are made to order, so whether you can return them depends on each retailer’s own policy. That’s why the differences below matter.
Glasses Returns Policies at UK Retailers
- Glasses Direct: free returns within 120 days, the longest we found.
- SmartBuyGlasses: free returns within 100 days, for a refund or an exchange. Unusually, this includes prescription lenses.
- Specsavers: promises to put things right if you have any concerns within 100 days of collecting your glasses.
- Vision Express: free returns within 100 days on glasses bought online.
- Specscart: returns or exchanges within 30 days, extended to 60 days for varifocals.
- Lentiamo: returns within 30 days without giving a reason, including prescription glasses, up to twice a year.
- Boots Opticians: bring them back to the store within 30 days and they’ll help you find an alternative.
- Mojoglasses: returns within 14 days, but for glasses with prescription lenses, it refunds the frame only, and you pay the return postage.
Which Retailers Refund Prescription Lenses?
This is the detail most people miss. A long returns window means little if you only get the frame cost back. SmartBuyGlasses says its 100-day policy covers prescription lenses, and Lentiamo lets you return prescription glasses within 30 days. By contrast, Mojoglasses refunds only the frame on prescription orders, as we explain in our Mojoglasses review. So if you’re unsure about a style, check what the refund covers before you pay.
Tips for Hassle-Free Glasses Returns
- Get your measurements right first. A wrong PD is a common reason glasses feel off, so follow our guide to measuring your PD at home.
- Try frames before you commit. Specscart and Glasses Direct both offer free home trials.
- Keep everything. Most retailers want the case, cloth and packaging back for a full refund.
- Use tracked postage. If you’re paying for the return, keep proof of postage, since some retailers don’t cover parcels lost in transit.
- Allow time to adjust. New prescriptions and varifocals can take a week or two to feel normal, so give them a fair try before returning.
What If Your Glasses Are Faulty?
Faulty glasses are different. If they’re damaged, broken or not made to your prescription, your normal consumer rights still apply, whatever the retailer’s returns policy says. Contact the retailer first, as most will remake or replace them.
Glasses Returns: The Short Answer
If returns matter to you, SmartBuyGlasses and Glasses Direct give the most time, and SmartBuyGlasses includes prescription lenses. On the high street, Specsavers and Vision Express also give 100 days. Whatever you choose, check whether the refund covers lenses, not just the frame.
