How it works

How GlassesCompared Works

Is GlassesCompared really free to use?

Yes – completely free. We earn a small commission from retailers when you click through and buy, but this never changes the price you pay. You’ll never be charged anything by us, ever

Do I need a prescription to use the comparison tool?

For prescription glasses, yes – you’ll need your most recent prescription from an eye test. For sunglasses or off-the-shelf reading glasses, no prescription is needed. You can find your prescription on the form your optician gave you after your last eye test.

Can I use my NHS optical voucher?

Yes – many of our partner retailers accept NHS optical vouchers. We clearly mark which retailers accept them so you can find the one that does. Vouchers are available for children under 16, those in full-time education aged 16-18, and people on certain benefits or with specific eye conditions.

Why should I buy glasses online?

Online retailers typically offer prices 50-70% lower than the high street for the exact same lenses and frames. Most have generous returns policies, virtual try-on tools, and you can compare hundreds of frames in your own time. For complex prescriptions or first time wearers, a high street optician might still be best, and we’ll guide you on which is right for your needs.

What if I’m not happy with my purchase?

Returns and refunds are handled directly by the retailer you buy from. Most UK retailers offer a 30-day returns or longer. We always show return policies in our comparison results so you can pick a retailer with terms that suit you.
