About GlassesCompared
A free UK glasses price comparison service – built by someone who needed it
Hi, I’m Mel, and GlassesCompared started after I was quoted more than £500 for a new pair of varifocals and nearly fell off my chair.
I’ve had a complicated journey with glasses. I wore them from my teens before eventually having laser eye surgery in my twenties, which worked brilliantly. After years of struggling with sensitive eyes and failed attempts at contact lenses, it honestly felt amazing to finally be free from glasses.
Then, at 32, I was diagnosed with cataracts.
Being told I’d need glasses again, this time varifocals, was something I really struggled with at first. And when it finally came time to replace my scratched, worn-out pair, I quickly realised how confusing online glasses pricing can be.
One retailer would advertise cheap frames, then add extra costs for thinning, coatings, or varifocal lenses later on. Another would have discounts that only applied to certain prescriptions. Trying to compare websites properly felt exhausting.
I just wanted a simple, honest way to see what my glasses were actually going to cost.
So I created GlassesCompared.
What GlassesCompared Does
GlassesCompared is a free UK glasses comparison tool designed to make shopping for prescription glasses simpler.
You enter your prescription, preferences, and budget, and we help you compare estimated prices, lens options, and deals from UK retailers in one place, including potential NHS voucher savings where applicable.
The aim is to save people time, reduce confusion, and make it easier to find better value without spending hours jumping between websites.
I’m based in Norfolk, juggling family life like everyone else, and this site was built to solve a real problem I personally faced. My hope is that GlassesCompared becomes a genuinely useful tool for anyone in the UK trying to make sense of glasses pricing online.
And yes, I still haven’t bought my new pair yet. But when I do, I’ll definitely be using this site myself!
How GlassesCompared Makes Money
GlassesCompared is completely free to use.
If you click through to certain retailers and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission. This never affects how results are displayed or compared.
Our aim is to help users compare options more clearly and make more informed decisions when buying glasses online.
